Happy Traitor Day!

Today is the one year anniversary of the beginning of So Say the Traitors! Happy birthday, second book! It’s been a while since I’ve updated, and I know a lot of you have been wanting to read/play so I apologize for the absence. I took some time to sort out a bit of writer’s block and to focus my free time on making some music. Now that I have taken this time, I feel comfortable saying I will be able to produce some future music for the raf44 series (and probably re-score some of gotr and sstt).

Now that I’m back, I have a lot of ideas for interactivity with the community, and some new updating principles that I intend to hold fast to. The biggest obstacle for most people reading/playing this story was timing. My updates were spastic and unpredictable. From now on I will update on a regular basis, and give a set amount of time for anyone who wishes to respond. This way everyone has a chance to offer advice or a response before the next update is completed. For situations where I expect to make several short updates quickly, I will organize a chat beforehand so everyone can play in real time.

My schedule for updates has yet to solidify, but I can say for certain that you will see the next update within two weeks. After that point, all (95%) updates will be regular.

I hope to have more activity this time around, because when it’s just Chaz and I writing this thing, I feel it’s less of the community experience I set out to create. Thanks to everyone who’s been reading over the years (years! it’s been almost two since I started GotR!), and especially those who have been playing. I <3 you all and I hope to see you participating when I get back to writing!

PS: Every update I will also be updating here at the RAF44 blog just with a link to the new post at FFR. This will allow those of you with busy schedules to simply add the blog’s RSS feed to whatever RSS reader you use, so you can be notified when there is a new update.

Two new sketches from Tim the Giusti!

Mason

Mason

Rosemary

Rosemary

Rosemary is a preliminary sketch, but this is as close as it’s come to what I had in mind, so I thought I might as well post it while I was posting Mason. Mason turned out EXACTLY as I was imagining, which is awesome.

And that’s actually all I have to report on as of right now, so I’ll get back to writing!

No News is Good News?

Not really. I don’t have anything to report because I’ve been really busy lately. A lot of good video games are coming out and I don’t have time to play them and work on gotr or sstt. Don’t think I’ve forgotten about you guys ;)

This comes also because a friend pointed out that sstt is a bit more boring than its predecessor. Now, granted, we haven’t gotten to the meat of the book yet, but still things should be more interesting than they are. Hopefully the next section with Fin will help that alone, but Gray’s chapters need a little work. I need to take a bit of time to make these investigations challenging, solvable, fun and also interesting to read.

So that is where I am at the moment. Hi.

GotR, this time with spelling!

As many of you know, I’m currently working on a rough draft re-write for GotR. This process requires re-writing the entire book in 1st person past tense and reworking a bunch of story elements, not to mention fixing up the whole thing so it isn’t made of prompts and “what do you do’s”

Anyway, if you want to follow along, I’ll be posting it as I get it done. If you see glaring mistakes (there will be some) or you hate something I changed (like names, oh how you’ll hate me for the name changes) just comment on any post and tell me about it. I’d love to fix what I can.

You can find it here and in the links sidebar.

Ghost of the Revolution: The thrilling conclusion

Will be conducted with an AIM/Vent audience. Basically I have most of the end written already, but there are a few major prompts left. I want to have all my key players there to participate and experience the end all at once. So I’m not going to set a date or time, but you guys just post when you think you’d be able to do this. What works better for you, weekends or weekdays? Morning, afternoon or evening? If I had my choice, I would do it Sunday afternoon, because I think that’s when the fewest amount of people are busy. If that works for you guys then I’ll hold the end August 24th between 2 and 5 p.m. EDT.

AIM room: gotr
FFYa vent: you know where to get that info

Just kidding

Okay no AIM trial; not everyone can make it and I’d rather not wait two weeks to post this trial. We WILL do the end of the book on AIM because it’s the only way it can be done. Prepare yourself for trial 4!

I mean it when I say it’s a “raw” version

Some people tell me that I have a lot of typos and misspellings in the public link to GotR. I know that, everything that was a response from the players was taken verbatim from them, I didn’t proofread it. The edited version will have all of those things fixed. Not to say I’m perfect either, I could probably find a dozen mistakes on any given page. I type these updates quickly and there are mistakes every now and then. It’s raw for a reason, so I can say “shut-up.”

While I’m on this note, please ignore the glaring similarities to Bioshock. I never played that game, and I was horrified to find out how similar my names and situations were to Bioshock’s story. “The Rapture” will be changed to “The Reckoning” in the edited version.

Also I find Rosemary’s character to be too similar to MGS2’s Rosemary (again, completely unintentional), so in the edited version her name will be Virginia. I know a lot of you early old-school readers will probably hate that, but I think it’s a fitting name for the character.
