Happy Traitor Day!

Today is the one year anniversary of the beginning of So Say the Traitors! Happy birthday, second book! It’s been a while since I’ve updated, and I know a lot of you have been wanting to read/play so I apologize for the absence. I took some time to sort out a bit of writer’s block and to focus my free time on making some music. Now that I have taken this time, I feel comfortable saying I will be able to produce some future music for the raf44 series (and probably re-score some of gotr and sstt).

Now that I’m back, I have a lot of ideas for interactivity with the community, and some new updating principles that I intend to hold fast to. The biggest obstacle for most people reading/playing this story was timing. My updates were spastic and unpredictable. From now on I will update on a regular basis, and give a set amount of time for anyone who wishes to respond. This way everyone has a chance to offer advice or a response before the next update is completed. For situations where I expect to make several short updates quickly, I will organize a chat beforehand so everyone can play in real time.

My schedule for updates has yet to solidify, but I can say for certain that you will see the next update within two weeks. After that point, all (95%) updates will be regular.

I hope to have more activity this time around, because when it’s just Chaz and I writing this thing, I feel it’s less of the community experience I set out to create. Thanks to everyone who’s been reading over the years (years! it’s been almost two since I started GotR!), and especially those who have been playing. I <3 you all and I hope to see you participating when I get back to writing!

PS: Every update I will also be updating here at the RAF44 blog just with a link to the new post at FFR. This will allow those of you with busy schedules to simply add the blog’s RSS feed to whatever RSS reader you use, so you can be notified when there is a new update.

Exciting new GotR merch

I have just spoken to the RAF44 artist, Tim Giusti, who has agreed to create a series of limited edition posters designed by me, based on a few intense scenes from Ghost of the Revolution. These are going into production as early as this weekend and should be ready for pre-order by June 23. There will be a limited supply of these posters, so they will all be numbered and the first 10 of each design will be signed by both the artist and I. Prices, sizes, and date of actual availability are all unknowns at this point, but I will have more information soon!

As for the design, I don’t want to give anything away, but if you have a favorite scene you would like to see on a poster, leave me a comment saying so, and maybe I’ll like your idea better. I have two scenes I’m doing for sure, and a few possibilities for the third, so let me know.

Rise and Fall Overhaul

I’ve been doing some housekeeping on the site. In addition to the nicely formatted So Say the Traitors public link, which is now updated to the latest completed chapter, I’ve also matched the Ghost of the Revolution public link as well. Finally no white background/black text … black background/white text MUCH BETTER!

In other news I’m also looking at the list of name changes, the most major of which is the classic Rosemary -> Virginia change. I’m starting to think there was really nothing wrong with Rosemary (even though it really seems like I stole it directly from MGS2). Devotees will also be glad to know that I have decided to keep the name The Rapture the same despite its strong tie to Bioshock.

Original – Changed to
Jewpin – Felix
William Arthur Rosenburg – Zachary Fleming-Boyles
The Rapture WILL NOT CHANGE
Rosemary – Virginia (may not do this one)
Polly – Erika (Grant’s daughter)
Julie – Charolette (Grant’s wife)
The Learning Curve – Humanity

Let me know what you think.

No News is Good News?

Not really. I don’t have anything to report because I’ve been really busy lately. A lot of good video games are coming out and I don’t have time to play them and work on gotr or sstt. Don’t think I’ve forgotten about you guys ;)

This comes also because a friend pointed out that sstt is a bit more boring than its predecessor. Now, granted, we haven’t gotten to the meat of the book yet, but still things should be more interesting than they are. Hopefully the next section with Fin will help that alone, but Gray’s chapters need a little work. I need to take a bit of time to make these investigations challenging, solvable, fun and also interesting to read.

So that is where I am at the moment. Hi.

Just kidding

Okay no AIM trial; not everyone can make it and I’d rather not wait two weeks to post this trial. We WILL do the end of the book on AIM because it’s the only way it can be done. Prepare yourself for trial 4!

Trial 4 is going to be badass

Just a little hype about the next trial–for all of you who weren’t already on the edges of your seats–Trial 4 is fucking awesome. I’m going to be holding the Trial all at once on AIM and FFYa vent.

Details:

Thursday, August 21st, 2008, 6 p.m. EDT

AIM chat: gotr

FFYa Vent.

Basically this trial is going to be so intense and fast that you’ll need group discussions on aim in order to be at all effective. Just to give you and idea about how awesome this trial is, I’ll tell you a small fact about it: The entire trial takes place in the space of one 4 minute song.

GotR Blog!

I’ve done a number of wordpress blogs in my life, but I think this will be the easier one to keep updated. This is mostly to alleviate the massive amounts of information I spew to my girlfriend and roommate about Ghost of the Revolution. They want to talk to me about other things, and I won’t have it. Hopefully with this blog to talk to, I’ll be able to finally return to a somewhat normal life again. I’m in the process of making this blog look similar to the splash page, but it’s a complicated stylesheet, so it might be a while. I’ll go do that now. I’ll post more later.
